Get to know us
It’s been an exciting and productive time connecting with everybody through social media. We’ve been building our Instagram, connecting with fellow book & coffee enthusiasts, and even launched a Kickstarter campaign. Social media is great, but it often makes it difficult to foster personal relationships and interactions. So, while you may have learned a bit about us through social media, we’d like to formally introduce ourselves!
We love books, exploring places for unique coffee spots, and promoting positivity & inclusivity. We know firsthand how easy it is to get stuck in the habit of reaching for the same types of books to read, and how difficult & time-consuming it can be to find decent coffee. We also think it's very important to feature women, LGBTQ+, and person of color writers. These reasons, together with our passion for spreading awareness of issues close to our hearts — like racism, sexism, and domestic violence — are why we started Lit & Latte.
Reading is important
We want the world to have more regular readers. Why? Well, to start, people who read regularly tend to sleep better, have lower stress levels, and have lower rates of depression than non-readers. Reading builds analytic thinking skills, boosts memory, and is a great way to improve cultural awareness. Reading books by authors with different beliefs, mindsets, and life experiences gives you the opportunity to think about ideas from varying perspectives.
Inclusivity: We value diversity of age, ethnicity, gender, religion, ability, experience, class, size, and more—and are dedicated to finding ways to work this into all facets of Lit & Latte.
Efficiency: Wastefulness is an epidemic, and we strive to do more with less.
Quality: There are so many subscription boxes out there, and some of them are stuffed with little knick-knacks that often end up collecting dust on shelves. Instead, we put quality over quantity.
Open-Mindedness: A fixed-point of view can be extremely damaging, so we’re dedicated to practicing free-thought, learning from new perspectives, and keeping an open-mind. Pitch us some ideas.
